Why Memphis Grizzlies games are set to air on Prime Video next season
Memphis Grizzlies games are set to move to a new streaming service for the 2024-25 season.
Diamond Sports Group, the parent company for Bally Sports, has entered a Restructuring Support Agreement (RSA) with its largest creditors in a plan that will provide a framework for reorganization that would clear Diamond from bankruptcy and continue its operations. As part of the RSA, Amazon is making a minority investment in Diamond to provide access for services via Prime Video.
This agreement will allow Amazon Prime Video to be the primary option for consumers to stream Grizzlies games. The Bally Sports app has been the primary streaming option this season. Prime Video also will host all pregame and postgame Grizzlies coverage.
More information on pricing and availability will be announced at a later date. Grizzlies games will still be available on cable and satellite providers.
"We are thrilled to have reached a comprehensive restructuring agreement that provides a detailed framework for a reorganization plan and substantial new financing that will enable Diamond to operate and thrive beyond 2024," Diamond CEO David Preschlack said in a statement. "We are grateful for the support from Amazon and a group of our largest creditors who clearly believe in the value-creating potential of this business. Diamond’s near-term focus will be on implementing the RSA and emerging from bankruptcy as a going concern for the benefit of our investors, our employees, our team, league and distribution partners, and the millions of fans who will continue to enjoy our broadcasts."
Before the 2023-24 NBA season and amid the Bally Sports financial bind, there was uncertainty whether Grizzlies games would still be carried on the network. The NBA announced in November that it reached an agreement with Diamond to continue distributing NBA games for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, but all regional sports network deals end after the season.
Bally Sports filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection — often called reorganization bankruptcy — in March. This allowed Diamond to continue running its business with court approval to borrow money.
Now, with help from creditors and Amazon, Diamond has a plan in place for the streaming of Grizzlies games.
