Why Lane Kiffin said Ole Miss football is against SEC allowing iPads on sidelines
DALLAS ― Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Monday at SEC Media Days that the conference's 16 teams will have access to sideline iPads in 2024. The tablets will be used to watch game film, pulling feeds from the game broadcast as well as the sideline and end zone.
Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin said he was against the change.
"I'd rather another team not have it," Kiffin said. "Just because we go so fast and I think they don't see a lot of it. And so now it allows them to see what really happened."
The Rebels ran 73.5 plays per game in 2023 to tie for 26th nationally and rank first among last season's SEC teams. That mark was even with SEC newcomer Texas. Fellow new arrival Oklahoma ran 76.2 plays per game a year ago ‒ the ninth-most in the country.
In each of Kiffin's three prior seasons at Ole Miss, the Rebels ranked in the nation's top five in pace of play.
"Most coaches were for (the iPads)," Kiffin said. "So, like anything that comes in, any new college rules, just try to maximize the situation and do the best with it."
