Why was guard Koron Davis dismissed from Louisville basketball team? Here's what we know

The Louisville men's basketball roster is down to 11 scholarship players following Koron Davis' dismissal from the team Wednesday. U of L did not provide a reason for the decision.

"I cannot shed any light on it," said second-year head coach Kenny Payne following his team's 75-63 loss to Arkansas State on Wednesday night. "I wish I could, but I can't. That's pretty much it."

Davis, a third-year, 6-foot-6 guard from Gary, Indiana, did not log a minute in a regular-season game and had not been on the Louisville bench since the Nov. 10 loss to Chattanooga.

Of the nine players Payne signed ahead of the 2023-24 season, seven are still with the program. In August, forward Trentyn Flowers, the top recruit in U of L's 2023 signing class, announced his decision to play professionally in Australia instead of joining the Cardinals.

Here's a look back at the timeline of how things transpired Wednesday between with U of L and Davis:

"I'm extremely proud of myself," Davis wrote in the post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, which included a photo that showed he earned a 3.4 grade-point average during the fall semester. "I challenged myself in the classroom and got it done. I'm enjoying the college experience being a true student-athlete. Where I come from a lot of people don’t get this opportunity.
