Why Duke basketball created the ‘Brotherhood’ podcast ahead of 2023-24 season
DURHAM — Duke basketball’s Ryan Young went from a program that has 23,000 followers on Twitter to one that has 2.1 million.
After four years at Northwestern, Young joined the Blue Devils as a graduate transfer ahead of the 2022-23 season. Now, in his final year of eligibility, Young is hosting a Duke podcast.
The Brotherhood Podcast, a weekly player-focused project hosted by Young that includes interviews with former and current Blue Devils, was unveiled in early July as Duke’s latest way to engage with fans.

At a recent summer press conference, Young said the podcast serves as “something to try and give back. Hopefully, fans appreciate it.”
Filmed and recorded by the Duke men’s basketball creative team – with Nolan Elingburg serving as the producer – the new episodes of the podcast are uploaded each Tuesday morning. Listeners can find it on Spotify and iTunes or watch the video version on Duke’s YouTube channel.
“It’s interesting how you can kind of attack social media in different ways. … It was kind of a brainchild of a few of the guys and our media team here,” Young said.
“It’s just an interesting, fun thing to do in the offseason. Hopefully – maybe – we’ll be able to carry it into the season.”
Sophomore star Kyle Filipowski, the reigning ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Tournament MVP, joined Young for the debut episode. Sophomore guard Tyrese Proctor swung by for the second episode and Steve Wojciechowski is featured on the latest episode as the first coach to join the pod.
The goal, Young added, is to “just keep things fresh” for the audience.
“It’s growing and evolving in a number of different ways. It’s a different way to give fans insight into how things work here day to day and the personalities of some of the guys on the team,” Young said.

“. … It’s all about trying to give back to the fans. We were undefeated at home this past season and I’ve said it a lot – especially coming from a place that doesn’t have the student section and the crowd that is Duke basketball – it makes a real difference. They’re in the fight with us, they play a significant role. We certainly don’t go undefeated at home without the passion, the pride and everything that Cameron is.”
