Where Ole Miss football, Mississippi State were predicted to finish in 2024 SEC poll
DALLAS ― Media members picked Ole Miss football to finish fourth in the 16-team SEC, the conference announced on Friday following SEC Media Days. Mississippi State is predicted to finish 15th in its first season under coach Jeff Lebby.
Poll results show four media members picked Ole Miss to win the SEC title. Over 76% of voters chose Georgia as their preseason conference title favorite.
The Rebels landed several players on the preseason all-conference teams, too. Wideout Tre Harris, tight end Caden Prieskorn and defensive lineman Walter Nolen received first-team nods. Defensive lineman Jared Ivey was selected to the second team, while defensive end Princely Umanmielen and running back Ulysses Bentley IV were named to the third team.
Mississippi State did not land any players on the all-conference teams.
With Texas and Oklahoma joining the conference, the SEC is moving away from its divisional format for the first time since 1991. Ole Miss finished second in the SEC West last season with a 6-2 conference record. The Bulldogs ended up sixth with a 1-7 SEC mark.
In 32 years, the SEC media has successfully predicted the conference champion just nine times.
