The North Carolina Tar Heels' football program continues preparation for the upcoming season as they kick off in Minnesota three weeks from tonight.

North Carolina still has some big questions to answer this season, losing a lot of production on the offensive side of the ball. And early on, we should get a feel for how the season could go for Mack Brown's team.

Week 1 is a tough challenge, going on the road against a Big Ten opponent in prime time. Getting a win would be huge for the Tar Heels, seeing that they have a favorable schedule following that.

But what does the national media think about the Tar Heels?

CBS Sports has released its initial ranking of all 135 college football teams and the Tar Heels cracked the top 50 at No. 44 overall. That's a lower ranking the past few seasons to open up the year but it's not terrible considering the talent that UNC lost.

The Tar Heels are ranked as the eighth-best ACC team behind No. 13 Florida State, No. 14 Clemson, No. 16 Miami, No. 24 NC State, No. 26 Louisville, No. 28 SMU, and No. 29 Virginia Tech.

As for UNC's Week 1 opponent, Minnesota checks in at No. 51 on the list.
