Where Mississippi State is ranked in baseball coaches poll after Texas A&M series loss

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State sits at No. 23 in this week's USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll, marking the Bulldogs' first appearance in the national ranking since March 14, 2022.

MSU (17-8, 3-3 SEC) moved up the poll despite losing two of three at Texas A&M last weekend. The Bulldogs were the top unranked team receiving votes in the poll last week. Campbell, Oklahoma, UC Santa Barbara and Auburn dropped out as Mississippi State jumped in.

Through six SEC games, Mississippi State has picked up three victories against ranked opponents. The Bulldogs opened conference play with a series win against No. 7 LSU before collecting a victory at No. 4 Texas A&M on Friday.

The path doesn't get much easier with MSU playing at Samford (16-7, 3-0 Southern Conference) on Tuesday (6 p.m., ESPN+) before opening a series at No. 6 Florida (14-9, 4-2 SEC) on Friday (5:30 p.m., SEC Network+).

Since winning a national championship in 2021, Mississippi State has failed to make a postseason appearance. However, the Bulldogs appear to be headed down a better path this year thanks to their pitching. Mississippi State's 4.11 ERA ranks seventh in the conference after back-to-back seasons of owning the SEC's worst mark.
