Where Memphis basketball stands in March Madness bracket predictions after 3 straight wins
Memphis basketball is gradually repairing the damage done to its March Madness résumé in January.
The Tigers (18-6, 7-4 AAC) have won three games in a row after a four-game skid nearly sent their NCAA tournament hopes into a tailspin. Last week, they defeated Temple on the road and beat Tulane at FedExForum.
But Penny Hardaway's team still has a lot of work left to account for the Quad 3 and Quad 4 losses to South Florida and Rice. Memphis has a couple of significant opportunities to do so this week, when it faces North Texas on Thursday (7 p.m., ESPN+) and SMU on Sunday (3 p.m., ESPN) − both on the road.
As the Tigers get set for their next game on Thursday (7 p.m., ESPN+) at North Texas, here’s a look at their résumé and where they sit in the latest March Madness projections, with seven games left in the regular season.

Joe Lunardi, ESPN
According to Lunardi's last projection (on Feb. 9), the Tigers were at the bottom of the "next four out" category.
His most recent bracket, however, which dropped Tuesday morning, does not include Memphis anywhere. Instead, Lunardi has FAU (a 6-seed) and South Florida (the AAC's automatic qualifier, as a 13-seed) representing the conference. South Florida is currently alone in first place atop the league's standings.
Jerry Palm, CBS Sports
At last check, the Tigers weren't anywhere to be found on Palm's bracketology.
But, they resurfaced, landing back in the "first four out" category. Palm's most recent projection published Monday morning, and he has Memphis behind Gonzaga, Cincinnati and New Mexico, which are all just on the wrong side of the bubble.
Dave Ommen, Bracketville
Memphis rose in Ommen's latest bracket, which dropped Monday, but it is still on the outside looking in.
The Tigers fall under the "next four out" heading, according to Ommen, behind Seton Hall, Providence, Cincinnati, Gonzaga and Wake Forest.
Shelby Mast, bracketwag.com
Memphis' wins last week were enough to convince at least one bracketologist that the Tigers are NCAA tournament-worthy.
Mast's updated field of 68 includes Memphis as the very last team to merit at-large inclusion. His forecast calls for the Tigers to meet St. John's in the First Four at Dayton.
JBR Bracketology
Memphis moved up quite a bit in this particular projection, going from "under consideration" last week to "first four out" Tuesday morning. Gonzaga, Wake Forest and Drake are the only teams on the wrong side of the bubble ahead of the Tigers here.
Bart Torvik's T-Ranketology update
The Tigers are slowly trending in the right direction here. Even though Torvik's formula has Memphis well on the wrong side of the bubble with a 2.4% chance of getting an at-large bid, that is an increase compared to a week ago when it was 0.7%.
