Michigan State basketball is the first team outside the top 25 in CBS Sports' preseason rankings released on Thursday.

Matt Norlander of CBS Sports published his annual preseason "Top 100 And 1 best teams" rankings on Thursday, with the Spartans falling just outside the top 25. Norlander had Michigan State come in at No. 26 in his rankings.

Here's a little bit of what Norlander had to say about the Spartans:

The last time MSU had a seed better than No. 7 was 2019 (though it would have been either a No. 2 or No. 3 in 2020). We're waiting on the return of vintage Michigan State. Will it happen in 2025? How many years does Tom Izzo still want to do this? Two more? Five? Whatever it is, I do expect Sparty to qualify for a 27th straight NCAA Tournament and for this team to be embedded in the strong and deep second tier in the Big Ten.

Of Big Ten teams, Michigan State was No. 6. The following teams from the Big Ten were ahead of the Spartans: Purdue (No. 7), UCLA (No. 16), Michigan (No. 18), Indiana (No. 20) and Illinois (No. 22).
