Where did Georgia football rank among schools with players on NFL rosters opening weekend?

Georgia football has dominated the NFL draft the past two years.

So where do the Bulldogs rank in players sent to the league on active rosters on opening weekend?

It’s third with 46, behind Alabama’s 57 and Ohio State’s 47, according to a list released by the NFL on Thursday. LSU is behind Georgia with 43 and Michigan is next at 38.

Alabama leads the league for a seventh straight year, but Georgia can make a claim not only for being LBU but also TEU.

Georgia has an NFL best 10 linebackers on NFL rosters and five tight ends. The Bulldogs are tied with Iowa, Notre Dame and Stanford for most tight ends.

The five tight ends are Darnell Washington (Steelers), Tre’ McKitty (Charlgers), Charlie Woerner (49ers), John Fitzpatrick (Falcons) and Lawrence Cager (Giants). Cager played wide receiver at Georgia.

The league released did not list players counted at each position so it’s unclear which 10 are counted in the NFL’s number for linebacker.

Former Georgia players now playing linebacker in the NFL, according to positions listed on team rosters: Monty Rice (Titans), Roquan Smith (Ravens), Nakobe Dean (Eagles), Nolan Smith (Eagles), Travon Walker (Jaguars), Channing Tindall (Dolphins), Leonard Floyd (Bills), Quay Walker (Packers), Azeez Ojulari (Giants), Justin Houston (Panthers) and Lorenzo Carter (Falcons).

Georgia had a modern-era record 15 players drafted in 2022 and tied for the most in 2023 with 10.

Georgia had an additional four players on reserve lists opening weekend and four more on practice squads, according to the school.
