The Texas Tech football team has one fewer football player with his name in the NCAA transfer portal than believed.

Tech coach Joey McGuire said Friday that you can see offensive tackle Matt Keeler at practice for the Red Raiders, but you won't find his name in the portal, at least not at the moment.

"Everybody has said that, but Matt Keeler is not in the portal," McGuire said. "He's our number-two left tackle. He graduates this spring.

"He is very serious about ... When we talked, he (said), 'Coach, I want to graduate from Texas Tech. Whenever I get through and I get married, I'm coming back to Texas. This is where I want to live. I absolutely love this place, and this is where I want my life to be.' "

Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported on Nov. 28 that Keeler is expected to have his name in the portal. Tech's Rivals site also reported Keeler is expected to have his name in the portal. Given that Keeler's on track to graduate in the spring, McGuire said he could have options as a graduate transfer then.

Keeler is a third-year sophomore from the Chicago suburb of La Grange Park, Illinois. He's played in all 25 games the past two seasons, mostly on the kicking team, but he made two starts at right tackle in 2022.
