Do you smell the popcorn sifting through arenas? Can you feel the excitement from cheers? How about hearing the basketball bounce as teams dribble it up the court?

If so, that means you're ready for the start of our favorite season: college basketball.

The North Carolina Tar Heels begin their highly-anticipated season late tonight, hosting the Elon Phoenix at 9 p.m. ET. UNC will play Elon for the third time in six seasons – and fourth overall – winning the first four matchups by an average of 29.5 points per game.

There's so much to be excited about for the Tar Heels. They return reigning ACC Player of the Year RJ Davis, but he's only one piece of the puzzle.

North Carolina welcomes in a small, star-studded recruiting class highlighted by 5-star freshmen Drake Powell and Ian Jackson. UNC head coach Hubert Davis made a couple splashes in the transfer portal, signing projected starters Cade Tyson and Ven-Allen Lubin.

If that's not enough to enthuse you about the college basketball season, Tar Heels defensive ace Seth Trimble withdrew himself from the transfer portal. Elliot Cadeau is amongst the best returning sophomores, while Jalen Washington and Jae'Lyn Withers highlight other returners.

UNC 85, Elon 62: We've watched the Tar Heels start slow in their season openers before – and that'll likely happen again. This year's UNC team is young, fast and comes with plenty of scorers, who will help UNC break way late.
