Watch the trailer for new docuseries about LeBron James's I Promise School

LeBron James and his family foundation opened the I Promise School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio 20 months ago, with the aim of giving inner city kids a strong foundation both inside and outside of school. James, an inner city kid himself, wanted to close the achievement gap and focus on more than just the school experience — he wanted to give kids and their families the tools to survive and thrive.

Now approaching the end of its second school year, the public can now get to know the innovative school and the students it serves in a new docuseries, “I PROMISE.” Co-produced by James’ SpringHill Entertainment and RYOT, the series will take an in-depth look at the school’s first year through the perspective of its students, who are working to defy society’s expectations of them as inner city kids.

The trailer for the series, released on Monday, gives you a brief glance at the kids you’ll meet and the odds they’re trying to defeat. Numerous students come from dangerous neighborhoods or unstable home situations, and the school works with them and their families to help them heal and grow past serious trauma.

“I PROMISE” will be released on Quibi, a new content platform that launches April 6.
