Watch South Carolina freshman MiLaysia Fulwiley hit buzzer-beater 3-pointer at halftime vs LSU

When South Carolina women's basketball was struggling to cut LSU's lead in the second quarter, MiLaysia Fulwiley came through Thursday.

The freshman guard, who coach Dawn Staley isn't shy about calling a generational talent, scored five straight points in the second quarter to cut the Tigers' lead to 36-30. LSU went back up by double digits shortly after, and South Carolina needed some momentum going into halftime.

The No. 9 Tigers (18-2, 5-1 SEC) couldn't score on what could have been the last possession of the first half, and junior point guard Raven Johnson grabbed the rebound and got down the court immediately.

She found Fulwiley on the wing, who knocked down a buzzer-beater 3-pointer at a sold-out Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Thursday. Fulwiley cut LSU's lead to 41-36 going into the break.

Fulwiley scored eight points on 3-for-4 shooting in the four minutes she played in the second quarter. She added two rebounds and a steal in the first half and kept the No. 1 Gamecocks (17-0, 5-0) afloat after LSU took control of the game. Her 3-pointer pulled South Carolina even with the Tigers' 3-point shooting – both teams ended up going 4-for-11 from behind the arc in the first half.

Despite the high profile of the South Carolina-LSU rivalry the past few years, the Gamecocks have dominated the series of late, winning 14 consecutive games. The Tigers, however, still hold an all-time 22-18 series advantage.

Fulwiley is averaging 11.7 points, three rebounds and 2.4 assists in 18 minutes per game this season.
