Watch a Nick Saban rant take a funny, lighthearted detour (Video)
When you’ve been around as long as Nick Saban has, it’s easy to get frustrated with the media.
Reporters are looking to highlight specific players leading up to the season, but that’s not the way coaches really operate. They look at things from a team perspective, so when Saban was asked about a few of his players individually on Wednesday after a long, hot day at practice, he decided to get something off his chest before answering the questions.
It resulted in a funny moment that shows that Saban has more of a sense of humor — it’s usually quite dry and sarcastic — than he gets credit for.

Saban took about a full minute to rant about preseason media predictions, which he sees as pretty useless.
“You guys make all these predictions about everything, about guys that are going to be great players who have been here for two years and who is going to win all the games,” Saban began. “I don’t even know why we play. Why do we even play? Why do we even have practice? Why do we compete? Why do we coach guys? Why do we need to improve when you guys have all the answers to how guys are going to be or how they’re going to do.”
But perhaps sensing he was getting a bit worked up, he pretty seamlessly transitioned into an answer to the question he was asked about the progress of linebacker Christian Miller.
Classic Saban.
