Lions' Malcolm Rodriguez intercepts 49ers' Brock Purdy in NFC Championship Game
The last time Malcolm Rodriguez picked off Brock Purdy, he took it to the house at Iowa State.
This one was even bigger.
Rodriguez, the former Oklahoma State linebacker, intercepted Purdy in the second quarter of the NFC Championship Game on Sunday at San Francisco. It set up a touchdown to give Detroit a 21-7 lead late in the first half with its first trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
Rodriguez, a Wagoner High School graduate, led OSU to arguably its best season in school history in 2021 — finishing a 12-2 campaign with a win against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.
Rodriguez, who was selected 188th overall by the Lions in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, had a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown against Iowa State in 2019.
