Watch Jackson Jobe, Detroit Tigers' top pitching prospect, dominate the Minnesota Twins
If ever there was a time for a spring training debut to live up to the hype, if was Jackson Jobe’s appearance Tuesday for the Detroit Tigers in Lakeland, Florida.
The 21-year-old, who was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft, was dominating in his inning of work, finishing off the Tigers’ speedy 1-0 win with a pair of strikeouts and nine strikes thrown in 13 pitches.
CARLOS MONARREZ: Detroit Tigers' spring training words aren't nearly as loud as their lack of action
Jobe earned a spot as the Tigers’ top pitching prospect with a 2023 season in the minors in which he issued just SIX walks over 64 innings in 16 Rookie, Low-A, High-A and Double-A appearances. On Tuesday, he showed why, shutting down Twins batters with an array of nasty stuff.
If all he'd thrown were fastballs — which got up to 102 mph — that would have been enough:

But Jobe also mixed in breaking pitches at 96 mph and 86 mph ...

Simply mind-blowing stuff from this 21 year old. 🤯 pic.twitter.com/k0S6pd3d8t— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) March 12, 2024
In case you missed it — the game wrapped up in just 121 minutes on Bally Sports Detroit — you’ll want to check out the entire appearance.

Although Jobe is the Tigers' No. 1 pitching prospect (and No. 3 overall, behind outfielder Max Clark and infielder Colt Keith, according to MLB Pipeline), he's just No. 25 on the top-100 list, albeit the No. 3 pitcher, behind Pittsburgh's Paul Skenes (No. 3) and San Franciso's Kyle Harrison (No. 22).
