Watch: Georgia Dome implodes, leaving rubble and memories
Another Atlanta Falcons symbol has collapsed, but this time it was intentional. The Georgia Dome, once the home of the Falcons, is now deceased, age 25. Cause of death: a big ol’ controlled explosion.

Opened in 1992, the Dome hosted two Super Bowls, including the famed “One Yard Short” game where the then-St. Louis Rams defeated the Tennessee Titans. The Dome also hosted basketball during the 1996 Olympics, one of Michael Jordan’s final games, and Final Fours including Louisville’s 2013 victory, as well as the SEC Championship and numerous concerts and events. Here’s a complete breakdown of the facility’s life:

The demolition required more than two tons’ worth of dynamite and six miles’ worth of detonating cord. Here’s a local newscast explaining the detonation.

The Dome wasn’t the most beloved stadium in America, by any means; it’s been replaced by the sleek new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. But it had its fans, and it’ll be missed … especially for all the non-Atlanta teams that celebrated championships there.
