How to watch Bills vs. Chargers on Peacock: It may be more difficult than you're used to

ORCHARD PARK - As is always the case with streaming-only NFL telecasts, unless you live in the designated “primary” market, you will have to make provisions if you plan to watch the Buffalo Bills play the Los Angeles Chargers Saturday night.

This critical game for the Bills is being aired exclusively on Peacock which is NBC’s streaming service. The exception is in the Buffalo area which is the Bills’ primary market. There it is available on regular television on the NBC affiliate, WGRZ, so wherever WGRZ is available - for instance, Batavia - you could drive down the Thruway and watch the game, perhaps at the home of a friend or family member, or at a bar.

But everywhere else in the region, including Rochester, if WGRZ is not available in your cable package, and you aren’t up to driving, there is no local TV broadcast; you will only be able to watch the game if you subscribe to Peacock. The cost to sign up is $5.99 per month, but there may be deals available.

This is similar to the Amazon Prime broadcasts such as in late October when the Bills’ game against the Buccaneers was available in Rochester only if you had that streaming service.

Understandably, the primary/secondary market rule frustrates fans, especially those in Rochester where the Bills are far and away the most popular team and from where thousands of fans attend all home games.

One option, though certainly not ideal, is to somehow tune out of everything until midnight Sunday morning and at that point, NFL Network - assuming you have that channel on your cable TV subscription - will replay the Bills-Chargers game. It might be tough to stay away from updates, and it would mean a late night, but the option exists.
