Victaria Saxton picked No. 25 in 2023 WNBA Draft by Indiana Fever, joining Aliyah Boston
Victaria Saxton was selected No. 25 overall Monday night in the 2023 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, becoming the fifth player and fourth starter from South Carolina women's basketball to be chosen.
Saxton, who played five seasons with the Gamecocks, holds the program records for games started in a season and career games started. The 6-foot-2 forward averaged 4.9 points and 3.1 rebounds shooting 46% from the field. She had her best game of the season against Arkansas, scoring 19 points in 19 minutes and hitting 80% of her shots.
Saxton joins teammate Aliyah Boston, who was selected No. 1 overall in 2023, and 2022 South Carolina grad Destanni Henderson on the Fever. Henderson was the No. 20 pick in last year's draft. In her first season with the Fever, she averaged 5.3 points and 2.5 assists in 16 minutes per game.

Indiana has finished last place in the league for the past two seasons and has not reached the playoffs since 2016. The Fever fired former coach Marianne Stanley nine games into the 2022 season and finished 5-31 overall. However, there is optimism for new coach Christie Sides, who has nine years of experience as an assistant in the WNBA.
Indiana is one of the youngest teams in the league. Just four players have more than a year of experience, which gives Saxton a stronger chance of making the final roster. The team's core includes 2022 No. 2 pick NaLyssa Smith and No. 6 pick Lexie Hull. Smith, a Baylor graduate, was a National Player of the Year finalist alongside Boston last season and Hull was a three-time All-Pac-12 selection at Stanford.
