Tennessee fans react to seismic injunction in NCAA lawsuit over NIL: 'A Wild West wasn't inevitable'

A Tennessee judge granted a preliminary injunction on Friday, suspending NCAA rulings on name, image and likeness benefits for athletes, allowing them to freely negotiate and sign NIL contracts without fear of breaching NCAA rules.

The injunction, which was granted in the Eastern Tennessee District by Judge Clifton Corker, comes amid an NCAA investigation into the University of Tennessee football program for allegations of UT breaking NIL laws in multiple sports, including football, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. The NCAA rule suspension will last until, at least, the end of the NCAA investigation into UT.

"The court's grant of a preliminary injunction against the NCAA’s illegal NIL-recruitment ban ensures the rights of student-athletes will be protected for the duration of this case, but the bigger fight continues," Tennessee Attorne General Jonathan Skrmetti said in a statement.

"We will litigate this case to the fullest extent necessary to ensure the NCAA's monopoly cannot continue to harm Tennessee student-athletes. The NCAA is not above the law, and the law is on our side."
