Updating LSU rankings in college football polls after Week 6

BATON ROUGE – LSU football didn't play a game in the first weekend of October.

And that may have been one of the best things for it as a couple of teams were upset to kick off the month, headlined by No. 1 Alabama going down at Vanderbilt and No. 4 Tennessee falling at Arkansas.

Because of the shocking results on the weekend, LSU (4-1, 1-0) has vaulted up to near the top of the Southeastern Conference standings after six weeks of the regular season as one of just three SEC teams still undefeated in conference play.

The Tigers return to action this weekend, hosting No. 8 Ole Miss (5-1, 1-1), which beat South Carolina on the road this past Saturday.

Resting and recovering seem to have paid off for LSU in more than one way as it moved up to No. 10 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, which was released Sunday morning. The Tigers are up to No. 10 in the rankings, the highest they've been this season. Ole Miss jumped up three sports after its win at South Carolina to No. 8. Alabama fell to No. 7 while Missouri's lost to Texas A&M dropped it from No. 19.
