Updating Clemson ranking in college football polls after comeback win vs Pitt

(This story was updated with new information.)

CLEMSON — Clemson football remained at No. 16 in the US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday.

The Tigers (8-2, 7-1 ACC) received 569 points and no first-place votes. They are the third-ranked ACC team, finishing behind No. 10 Miami (847 points) and No. 12 SMU (744).

Clemson won its final ACC game on Saturday, defeating Pitt 24-20 behind quarterback Cade Klubnik's game-winning 50-yard rushing touchdown in the final minutes. It will play its last two games at home, hosting The Citadel on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, CW Network), then battling in-state rival No. 19 South Carolina on Nov. 30, as it hopes Miami or SMU loses in the coming weeks for it to have a chance at the ACC championship.

ACC teams that did not make the coaches top 25 poll but received votes were Syracuse (18 points), Duke (9), and Pitt and Louisville (2 each).

Oregon remained at No. 1 in the poll, earning 1,375 points and 55 first-place votes. Ohio State stayed at No. 2 with 1,316 points.

The weekly poll is voted on by a panel of coaches chosen by random draw. Voters submit a top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place worth 24, and so on down to one point for 25th, according to USA TODAY Sports.
