Updating Clemson ranking in college football polls after bounce back win vs Virginia Tech

CLEMSON — Clemson football rose from No. 17 to No. 16 in the US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday.

The Tigers (7-2, 6-1 ACC) received 536 points and no first-place votes. They are the third-ranked ACC team, finishing behind No. 12 Miami (820 points) and No. 13 SMU (691).

Clemson rebounded from its first conference loss last week to defeat Virginia Tech 24-14 at Lane Stadium. It looks to win its final ACC game on Saturday (noon ET, ESPN) against Pittsburgh (7-2, 3-2) at Acrisure Stadium to keep pace in the conference and attempt to make the College Football Playoff.

One other ACC school made the top 25: Louisville (109 points) at No. 24.

ACC teams that did not make the coaches top 25 poll but received votes were Pitt (28 points) and Duke (1).

Oregon remained at No. 1 in the poll, earning 1,375 points and 55 first-place votes. Ohio State rose to No. 2 with 1,314 points.

The weekly poll is voted on by a panel of coaches chosen by random draw. Voters submit a top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place worth 24, and so on down to one point for 25th, according to USA TODAY Sports.

Clemson rankings update

In the AP poll, Clemson went from No. 19 to No. 17, receiving 524 points. It sits behind Miami (No. 12, 907 points) and SMU (No. 14, 788) in the conference and is ahead of Louisville (No. 22, 240)

One ACC team did not make the AP Top 25 but received votes: Pittsburgh (18)

Oregon stayed at to No. 1 in the AP poll, earning 1,550 points and 62 first-place votes. Ohio State rose to No. 2, and Texas went to No. 3.
