UNC QB Drake Maye is slipping in some pre-draft rankings?
The 2024 NFL offseason will start to heat up here in a few weeks, leading into the free agency period in March. That’s the first big event of the new league year, setting the table for the 2024 NFL draft in April.
Among the handful of prospects from North Carolina is quarterback Drake Maye, a player who all year was considered one of the top prospects and a player that could go top 3.
With Caleb Williams likely going No. 1, the race for QB2 is getting interesting as LSU’s Jayden Daniels is starting to climb the rankings and even passing Maye in a few analysts’ big boards. The latest? Former North Carolina Tar Heel Bucky Brooks.
The NFL.com analyst wrote on his position rankings and he had Daniels passing Maye. Here is what he wrote on the quarterback position:
Daniels’ slender frame might give some teams pause, but interested squads are smitten with his dynamic playmaking potential. The LSU standout dazzles on the perimeter as a dual-threat quarterback with elite talents as a runner and passer. Maye is coming off a disappointing final campaign in Chapel Hill, but he commands plenty of attention in scouting circles due to his prototypical dimensions and exceptional arm talent.
Brooks isn’t the only one moving Daniels up in the rankings but there are some that still have Maye at No. 2 as well.
The good news for Maye is still a long ways to go until the draft with the scouting combine coming up and then pro days as well.
