UNC-Florida State game preview, prediction and more

When the North Carolina Tar Heels take the field at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday afternoon, college football fans will likely be surprised.

For one team, that surprise isn't in a good way.

UNC (4-4, 1-3), fresh off a dominant, much-needed victory over Virginia, has something to play for entering Saturday's matchup at Florida State. Not only is North Carolina dedicating the rest of its season to former player Tylee Craft, who passed from a long battle with cancer three weeks ago, but North Carolina is now just two victories from bowl eligibility.

After barely missing the College Football Playoff last year and complaining about it, you'd think the Seminoles are right back in contention. That couldn't be further from the truth, with FSU (1-7, 1-6) just above ACC newcomer Cal for last place in the conference.

The Tar Heels will try for just their fourth-ever win against the Seminoles, with their last one coming in 2016. If anyone remembers that UNC win over FSU, Nick Weiler nailed a game-winning, 54-yard field goal as time expired.

If there's any team the Seminoles can snag another win against, though, it's North Carolina. The Tar Heels may have won big last weekend, but history shows they're bound to have another letdown at some point.

FSU was eliminated from bowl contention with last week's loss, though, so they have nothing to play for besides their own dignity.

UNC's defense, surprisingly, should have a solid game against the ACC's worst offense. There's no reason North Carolina will struggle to put points on the board, as the Seminoles' defense isn't much better than Virginia's.

What should you be looking at ahead of Saturday' 3:30 p.m. kickoff from the Sunshine State?

UNC's key to beating a struggling Florida State squad on Saturday will be getting to the quarterback.

The Tar Heels decided last weekend's game thanks to their defensive pressure. North Carolina players generated 10 sacks, the program's first time doing so since 200, while one pressure led to a Jahvaree Ritzie pick-6.

Seminole quarterbacks have been sacked 23 times through eight games, which is an average of just under three sacks per game. With North Carolina's defense on a high, expect another big game in the trenches.

Something to watch

Florida State thought it found its star quarterback in the transfer portal last offseason, but instead, DJ Uiagalelei is riding the bench after several poor performances.

The Seminoles have since turned to Brock Glenn as their starter – and he hasn't been great. FSU played freshman Luke Kromenhoek a bit in last weekend's loss at Miami, but he didn't play much better.

I'd be willing to bet either Glenn or Kromenhoek starts against UNC on Saturday. The question is: who will start?
