UCF coach Scott Frost: 'I’d be hurt if Nebraska wasn’t interested in me'
As the coaching carousel continues to spin, there hasn’t been a whole lot of noise about the Nebraska opening aside from one name: Scott Frost.
At Central Florida, Frost has the AAC title game against Memphis to prepare for. Frost, a former Nebraska quarterback who has No. 15 UCF at 11-0 in his second season with the program, is the main name connected to the Huskers’ opening. And with Florida filling its vacancy with Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen, it feels like the Frost-to-Nebraska pieces are coming together.

What Frost said, or didn’t say, Monday probably won’t dissuade anybody from that line of thinking.
The coach was asked straight up on the AAC teleconference if he would be back at UCF in 2018. He declined to answer.
“I’m just not going to talk about it,” Frost said. “All I want to talk about is this football team. My focus is on this football team.”
Later in his meeting with local reporters, he kept the attention on his players but acknowledged he has a decision to make.
“Every year in college football, there’s tough decisions to make,” Frost said. “And those kind of things happen. And when the time’s right, we’ll make them. I know it would be really hard to leave this team because of how much love I have for this group of guys and how much effort they’ve given us.
“So all I’m going to do is go back to my office and watch more film. This shouldn’t be about me. I know the questions are going to come, but these guys have earned the right to have the conversation be about them and about the game they won on Friday and the game they’re going to play this Saturday.”
New Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos, who made the move to fire Mike Riley on Saturday, has mentioned his interest in Frost multiple times. Moos admitted Frost is someone he is “considering” for the opening, but wanted to be respectful of UCF’s ongoing season.
“Scott is someone that I am considering but I’m being very sensitive to the fact that he’s still coaching a team, and he’s having a heck of a run,” Moos said.
Frost was not bothered by Moos outwardly saying Nebraska is interested in his services.
“I’d be hurt if Nebraska wasn’t interested in me,” he said. “We’re undefeated. I’m from there. When you win a lot, people are interested in you.”
While the Nebraska speculation continues, Frost said he will put his head down and devote his attention toward winning the AAC title. By beating No. 20 Memphis, UCF would likely seal up a spot in a New Year’s Six bowl as well.
Whether Frost is there to coach UCF in a bowl — New Year’s Six or otherwise — remains to be seen.
