UAB football is back. And the Blazers’ first game since the 2014 season got off to an awesome start.

UAB director of character development Tim Alexander got up from his wheelchair and walked the game ball to midfield. You may wonder if your room suddenly got dusty while watching the video.

Alexander, who graduated from UAB in 2015, was paralyzed in 2006 when a friend fell asleep behind the wheel of a car and the car crashed. He was one of the most instrumental figures in leading the push for the revival of UAB football following the program’s shutdown after the 2014 season.

Per the Birmingham Times, Alexander got over 60 city councils in the Birmingham area to sign resolutions in support of the sports programs that got cut along with football.

UAB’s return was a winning one too. The Blazers beat FCS school Alabama A&M 38-7 and travel next week to Ball State.
