Tyrese Haliburton maintains sizable lead among East's guards in All-Star fan voting
Tyrese Haliburton is out for at least six more games with a strained left hamstring, but the Pacers point guard still maintains a sizable lead atop the All-Star fan voting for Eastern Conference guards, keeping him in position to start the game that will be played in Indianapolis on Feb. 18.
The NBA released its second voting returns on Thursday, and Haliburton ranks first among all Eastern Conference guards, fourth among all Eastern Conference players and eighth among all players with 2,192,810 votes. That gives him a lead of more than 700,000 votes on second-place Trae Young of Atlanta, who has 1,449,485 and third-place Damian Lillard of Milwaukee, who has 1,414,122. Haliburton has the largest lead in voting at any position.
Each conference elects two starting guards and three starting frontcourt players. The fan vote accounts for 50% of the vote for starters. A poll among the players accounts for 25% and a poll of selected media members accounts for the other 25%.
Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo leads all votes with 3,475,698. Philadelphia's Joel Embiid and Boston's Jayson Tatum are second and third among Eastern Conference frontcourt players and each have over 2.9 million votes. The Lakers' LeBron James leads Western Conference players with 3,096,031. Denver's Nikola Jokic and Phoenix's Kevin Durant are second and third among Western Conference frontcourt players, each with over 2.7 million votes. Dallas' Luka Doncic leads all Western Conference guards with over 2.5 million and Golden State's Stephen Curry is second with over 2.1 million.
Haliburton is averaging 23.6 points per game while shooting 49.7% from the floor and 40.3% from 3-point range. He leads the NBA with 12.5 assists per game and he ranks eighth in total 3-pointers with 112.
No other Pacers are in the top 10 of the voting.
