Tyler Shough leaves Texas Tech football game with lower-leg injury against West Virginia

Texas Tech football starting quarterback Tyler Shough left Saturday's game against West Virginia with an apparent ankle injury.

Shough scrambled for a short gain on a second-down play in which he sustained a rolled ankle. On third down, Shough dropped back to pass and, based on video from the ESPN+ broadcast, rolled his ankle again after planting to throw and stayed down on the ground.

The sixth-year senior was carted off the field with an air cast around his left ankle with 28 seconds left in the first quarter. The severity of the injury was not known at the time of publication.

Shough gave the Guns Up and thumbs up hand signals to the Tech sideline as he was being carted off.

Behren Morton, the backup quarterback, is expected to take over for the rest of the game.

Texas Tech was trailing 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.

In the third quarter, the ESPN+ crew reported that Shough was officially ruled out of the game, though he was still in the stadium and had not been taken to a local medical facility.
