Tuscaloosa Academy's Jonni Kneer wins Class 1A-3A singles state title to lead top performers

Here are the Tuscaloosa area top performers from the week of April 22-26 from high school, tennis, soccer, baseball and softball.

Baseball

Thursday, April 25

Fayette County's Landon Lowe had two hits and seven RBIs in the Class 3A second round playoff series sweep over Piedmont (12-2, 10-1).

Fayette County's Harrison Unger had four RBIs across both games. He started on the mound in game two, pitching a complete game and allowing four hits, one run and striking out nine.

Fayette County's Cooper Sanford started on the mound in game one, allowed three hits, gave up one run and struck out four in five innings pitched.

Friday, April 26

American Christian Academy's Addison Goodman and Coltyn Mitchell combined to pitch 14 innings for ACA, allowing just four hits and zero runs in the second-round playoff series sweep over Satsuma (9-0, 3-0).

American Christian Academy's Evan Lightsey had two doubles and a two-run home run across both games.

Hillcrest's Jackson Henderson had three RBIs and three singles in the second-round playoff series sweep over Pike Road (5-0, 6-5). Henderson started on the mound in game two, striking out six batters.

Hillcrest's Evan Williams pitched a game one complete game shutout and had three hits from the plate across both games.

Softball

Hillcrest's Brooke Mathewson finished the week going 5-for-12 from the plate with four home runs and seven RBIs. She pitched 10 innings where she struck out nine and had an ERA of .667.

Hillcrest's Jamie Hugely finished the week going 6-for-18 with eight RBIs and one home run.

Hillcrest's Mackenzie Harper struck out 16 batters and finished the week with an ERA of 1.7.

Northside's Avery Sharbutt and Caroline Jones each hit .667 for the week.

Monday, April 22

Brookwood's Layla Steele pitched a complete game while going 2-for-4 from the plate with a home run and a double in a 4-1 win over Northside.

Brookwood's Kylee Grace Roy led the Lady Panthers with three hits in four at bats.

Tuscaloosa County's Holly Beth Brooks went 3-for-3 from the plate with two doubles, a home run and caught one runner stealing in a 8-1 win over American Christian Academy.

Tuscaloosa County's Karlie Beasley pitched a complete game allowing one run off of seven hits, while striking out seven. From the plate, she went 1-for-4 with a double.

Tuesday, April 23

Tuscaloosa County's Peyton Earp pitched a complete game while allowing three runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out one in a 5-3 win over McAdory. From the plate, she went 1-for-2 with a double and a stolen base.

Tuscaloosa County's Holly Beth Brooks went 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBIs.

Tuscaloosa County's Kayhlen Washington went 1-for-3 from the plate with a double and one RBI.

Friday, April 26

Pickens Academy's Lilly Vold hit a two-run home run and pitched a complete game, striking out seven batters, in a 5-2 win over Jackson Academy in AISA regional play.

Monday, April 22

Tuscaloosa Academy's Brock Abston and Kito Lao each scored a goal in a 2-0 win over Holt.

Tuesday, April 23

Tuscaloosa County's Jose Nolasco scored two goals in a 4-2 win over Central.

Tuscaloosa County's Jacob Gomez and Junior Solis each scored a goal and had an assist.

Tuscaloosa County's Jesus Quezada recorded and assist.

Girls soccer

Monday, April 22

Tuscaloosa Academy's Amelia Hamiter scored five goals in a 10-0 win over Holt.

Tuscaloosa Academy's Audra Kutzer scored two goals, while Cate Ramey, Carly King and Elena Matos each scored one.

Tuesday, April 23

American Christian Academy's Addison Golden scored two goals in a 4-2 win over Brookwood.

American Christian Academy's Kaylee Shaw and Reagan McGough each scored a goal.

American Christian Academy's Savannah Adderholt recorded eight saves in goal.

Tuscaloosa County's Alondra Reyes and Nancy Soto each scored a goal in a 2-0 win over Central.

Tuscaloosa County's Jennie Trejo contributed both assists.

Tuscaloosa County's Allee Hathcock recorded four saves in her first shutout and first win of the season in goal.

Thursday, April 25

Northridge's Ella Johnson recorded a hat trick by scoring three goals in a 10-2 win over Calera in the opening round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Northridge's Mary Carson James and Maddie VanDerlyke each scored two goals.

Boys Tennis

Hillcrest's JC Foster made it to the final match of the Class 6A No. 3 singles state championship, falling to Mountain Brook's Guy Mitchell 6-1, 6-1.

Hillcrest's Griffin Armstrong and JC Foster made it to the Class 6A No. 1 doubles state championship match, falling to Trinity Presbyterian's Samuel Treadwell and James Treadwell 6-1, 6-2.

Tuscaloosa Academy's Jonni Kneer won the Class 1A-3A No. 1 singles state championship, defeating Providence Christian's Jackson Hughes in the state title match 6-0, 6-1.

Tuscaloosa Academy's Jonni Kneer and Holman Bearden won the Class 1A-3A No. 1 doubles state championship, defeating Shoals Christian's Samuel Camp and John David Bachofer 6-1, 6-1 in the state title match.

Girls Tennis

Hillcrest's Kameryn Browne made it to the semifinals of the Class 6A No.1 singles state championship, falling to Madison Academy's Jaedyn Martin 6-1, 6-0.

Northridge's Alice Rowley and Carter Thomason made it to the semifinals of the Class 6A No. 1 doubles state championship, falling to McGill-Toolen's Juliet Galla and Clare LaCour 6-2, 6-3.
