Toronto Maple Leafs Prospect Suspended Two Games For Unsportsmanlike Conduct

The OHL handed out several suspensions Saturday afternoon after Friday's slate of games, and a Toronto Maple Leafs prospect found himself on the disciplinary list.

Owen Sound Attack forward Sam McCue — Toronto Maple Leafs 2024 seventh-rounder, 216th overall — has been suspended for two games as a result of his actions in their game against Brantford Friday night.

The game was tied up at deuces until Sam McCue broke the deadlock with a deflection at the top of the crease for his second of the season. As he headed to his bench for glove taps, he turned to Brantford's bench and mouthed something to someone.

Before the goal, Bulldogs forward Calvin Crombie was "accidentally" dumped to the ice by Attack captain Konnor Smith following an icing call. As Crombie got up, he gave a little wack on the pads to Carter George who was skating into the corner during the stoppage of play.

15 seconds after McCue's goal, he and Crombie were each given unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalties and a 10-minute misconduct. While both headed to the penalty box, McCue tried to hustle around the linesmen to start a fight with the Brantford forward, clearly unhappy with the wack he gave his netminder.

The broadcast did not pick up McCue's conversation with the referee, but he clearly said something that crossed the line and was given an extra five-minute game misconduct penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

It's unclear what he said, however, it was worthy enough of receiving a two-game suspension from the league.

McCue will miss Owen Sound's next two home games against their divisional rivals Kitchener and London. He is eligible to return on Oct. 11 when the Attack head on the road to take on the Niagara IceDogs.

The Owen Sound Attack forward is a gritty player who is more than happy to mix it up. After all, his hometown is Sudbury, a city known for raising rough-and-tough hockey players.
