Texas volleyball in the Big 12: A look at the top players during the Longhorns' era
Texas opens its final Big 12 volleyball schedule this weekend in Norman, Oklahoma. Losing the Longhorns will have a seismic effect on the conference's volleyball, which has been dominated by either Texas or Nebraska for the past 28 years. Nebraska won at least a share of 12 conference titles before it left for the Big Ten in 2011, and Texas has won a share of at least 15. Each school won two national titles as Big 12 programs, and they produced 26 of the 29 conference player of the year awards.

Our all-time Big 12 team, 1996-2022
S Greichaly Cepero, Nebraska, 2000-03: A two-time Big 12 player of the year and the 2000 AVA player of the year redefined the setter position.
OH Sarah Pavan, Nebraska, 2004-07: Before becoming one of the world’s elite professional beach volleyball players, the Canadian earned three Big 12 player of the year awards as well as the 2006 national honor from the AVCA.
OH Logan Eggleston, Texas, 2018-22: The three-time player of the year in the Big 12 earned national player of the year honors from the AVCA after leading the Longhorns to the 2022 national title.
OH Yossiana Pressley, Baylor, 2017-21: The 2019 national player of the year and the Big 12’s all-time leader in kills lifted Baylor to its first share of the conference title as well as its first appearance in the Final Four while setting virtually every school attacking record.
OH Christina Houghtelling, Nebraska, 2003-07: Arguably the best two-way player in conference history, the 2005 AVCA player of the year also earned the Big 12’s defensive player of the year award in 2007.
OH Haley Eckerman, Texas, 2011-14: A four-time All-American and three-time Big 12 player of the year keyed the Horns’ run to the 2012 national title, their first such championship as a member of the Big 12.
LIB Ashley Mass, Iowa State, 2007-10: The Big 12’s all-time leader in digs earned three first-team, all-Big 12 selections as well as multiple All-American honors from the AVCA.

S Michelle Moriarty, 2004-07: The Longhorns’ all-time assists leader as well as assists-per-set leader started all four years at Texas while earning All-American honors.
OH Destinee Hooker, 2006-09: The high-flying Olympian ranks third on the school’s all-time list in kills and is the Big 12’s all-time leader in solo blocks.
OH Logan Eggleston, Texas, 2018-22: The Tennessee native is one of two players, along with Baylor’s Pressley, to earn five first-team All-Big 12 honors.
OH Mira Topic, 2001-04: The international star from Croatia remains Texas’ all-time leader in kills, and she ended her career as the Longhorns’ all-time leader in aces.
OH Haley Eckerman, Texas, 2011-14: The dynamic two-way player started her career in brilliant fashion, earning the Big 12’s freshman of the year award.
MB Chiaka Ogbogu, 2013-17: A four-time AVCA All-American and a Big 12 player of the year is the program leader in blocks and a member of the U.S. national team.
LIB Cat McCoy, 2014-17: The backcourt anchor for national-finalist teams in 2015 and 2016 ended her career as Texas’ all-time leader in digs.
