Texas Tech football bowl projections: Are the Red Raiders worthy of the Pop-Tarts Bowl?

Entering their first open date of the season, the Texas Tech football team heads into the second half of the 2024 season one win away from bowl eligibility.

With a 5-1 overall record, and 3-0 mark in Big 12 play, the Red Raiders sit alone in first place in the conference standings. Should that hold, Texas Tech could be in line for a berth in the Big 12 championship game and maybe even the College Football Playoff.

Nobody's projecting the Red Raiders to the CFP just yet, but here's where the latest bowl projections have Texas Tech going after the regular season.

Action Network: Pop-Tarts Bowl

If Brett McMurphy has anything to say about it, Red Raider fans must stock up on some toaster pastries. The new fan favorite Pop-Tarts Bowl would see Texas Tech taking on Notre Dame on Dec. 28 in Orlando. The Red Raiders and Fighting Irish have played once — technically. Tech's media guide says the Red Raiders played Notre Dame's B-team on Oct. 28, 1932. Texas Tech won 39-0.

CBS Sports: Liberty Bowl

Jerry Palm of CBS Sports has the Red Raiders heading back to Memphis for a Dec. 27 matchup with Arkansas in the Liberty Bowl. The Red Raiders last played the Razorbacks in 2015, a 35-24 win by Tech in Fayetteville. Tech last made the Liberty Bowl in 2021 when the Red Raiders beat Mississippi State.

ESPN: Pop-Tarts Bowl or Texas Bowl

ESPN's weekly projections are split between two writers in Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach. As such, there could be multiple projections each week, which is the case here. Bonagura has the Red Raiders taking on Pittsburgh in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Schlabach has Texas Tech going to Houston on Dec. 31 for a matchup with Oklahoma in the Texas Bowl.

247Sports: Texas Bowl

Brad Crawford of 247Sports also has the Red Raiders going to Houston for the Texas Bowl. Crawford, though, has Texas Tech taking on Kentucky. These two teams have never met on the gridiron.
