Texas Tech football adds transfer from South Carolina
The Texas Tech football team added offensive line depth Monday, picking up a commitment from tackle Jaxon Hughes, who spent four years at North Carolina-Charlotte and last season at South Carolina.
Hughes, listed by South Carolina at 6-foot-6 and 297 pounds, started seven games in 2021 and 11 games in 2022 at UNC-Charlotte. All but two of those starts were at left tackle. After transferring to South Carolina, he missed all but two games last season after a knee injury.
Hughes took an unofficial visit to Tech over the weekend and is expected to join the Red Raiders as a walk-on.
Monroe Mills and Caleb Rogers were Tech's regular starting tackles last season, but Mills transferred to Louisville and Rogers is moving positions to guard or center.
Coming out of spring, junior returnee Ty Buchanan and Middle Tennessee State transfer Sterling Porcher are the first-teamers at right tackle and left tackle, respectively.
