Texas Tech football: 3 public events for fans coming up

Texas Tech football fans have three opportunities coming up to see coaches and/or players in preseason events open to the public. Here's a summary of where you can catch Tech coach Joey McGuire and other Red Raiders before the Aug. 31 season opener against Abilene Christian at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Red Raider Club kickoff luncheon

McGuire and athletics director Kirby Hocutt are headliners in the annual event scheduled for Aug. 22 at the Memorial Civic Center. Members of the football, volleyball, cross country and soccer programs also will take part in the festivities.

Doors open at 11:15 a.m., and the program is scheduled to start around noon. The Goin' Band from Raiderland and Tech spirit squads will perform before the program starts.

General admission tickets starting at $25 and reserved tables for $750 are available at redraiderclub.com/events. More information can be obtained by calling the Red Raider Club at (806) 742-1196.

Meet the Red Raiders

The Tech football team will host its annual autograph day from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Sports Performance Center immediately south of Jones AT&T Stadium. There is no admission charge.

Fans are asked to park in the west lot of Jones AT&T Stadium. Parking in the east lot is unavailable because of the ongoing football facilities projects.

To accommodate all attendees, Tech is asking fans to adhere to one item per person to be autographed. Tech personnel will provide complimentary schedule posters inside the Sports Performance Center's main track-side entrance.

Knights of Columbus Tech Night

McGuire, Tech assistant coach Kenny Perry and Tech track and field coach Wes Kittley are scheduled for the Knights of Columbus' 63rd preseason event scheduled for Aug. 24.

The event takes place at the Knights of Columbus Hall located between Slide Road and Quaker Avenue at 4702 130th St. Doors open at 5 p.m., and a pulled-pork sandwich dinner will be served until 6:30 p.m., according to event organizers.

Tech Night includes an auction of Texas Tech and other sports memorabilia, as well as performances by the Goin' Band and Tech cheerleaders.

Tickets are $40 at the door. They're $30 online or by calling the Select-A-Seat box office at (806) 770-2000 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. Youngsters 12 and under are admitted free.
