Texas softball jumps to No. 1 after Oklahoma has long winning streak snapped.

After Oklahoma’s record 71-game winning streak was snapped with a loss to Louisiana on Friday, the Sooners suffered some salt in the wound in Monday’s DI Softball poll.

Texas, Oklahoma’s bitter Big 12 rival, ended the Sooners’ long reign atop the national poll by leaping up to No. 1 following a 5-0 showing this past week. The Longhorns (17-1) had been ranked No. 2 behind the Sooners, who have won the past three national titles.

The Longhorns spent this past weekend running roughshod over the competition as they hosted the Longhorn Invitational. Texas beat Hofstra 13-0 on Sunday and outscored its first four opponents in the event 40-2.

The tournament concludes today with a 5 p.m. game against Penn State.
