Texas football celebrates kicker Bert Auburn going from walk-on to scholarship
Texas kicker Bert Auburn has been rock solid for the Longhorns the past two years, but 2023 was his best year yet. He had multiple clutch kicks and made 29 of his 35 attempts. Yet for the three years he's been on campus, Auburn was unlike most of Texas' best players in that he was a walk-on.
That changed Sunday.
"When we can reward those guys man, there's nothing better. Bert Auburn you're on scholarship," Sarkisian announced to an excited team.

While he struggled early on, Auburn made history this past season. He broke the record for most consecutive field goals in a season and is the latest in a long line of solid UT kickers. Cameron Dicker and Justin Tucker are two of the best in the league right now and the Longhorns always seem to have someone to rely on in the wings.
He delivered the winning points in Texas' 33-30 win over Kansas State, hitting all four field goals including a 49-yarder. Auburn's job isn't a glorious one, with the praise often being overshadowed by the negativity that comes whenever he misses a kick.
“I’ve definitely deleted my Twitter account before,” Auburn said. “I’m still on Instagram, but I’m trying to stay off social media.”
Now a senior, Auburn will look to follow in the footsteps of his mentors in Texas' first year in the SEC.
