Texas-ex Julien Alfred falls to Sha'Carri Richardson at World Championships Final
Texas-ex Julien Alfred dominated her senior year. Moving on to the world was the next step and at the World Championships Final in Budapest, the St. Lucia representative finally met her match in the 100 meters that she had dominated for most of the year.
Alfred finished fifth in the final with a time of 10.93 seconds. The Ivory Coast's Marie-Josee Ta Lou finished fourth, Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson finished third and second and America's Sha'Carri Richardson won gold with a championship record of 10.65 seconds.

This was the former Longhorns' first 100 meter loss of the 2023 season. Alfred's year up to this point had been spectacular, as she powered the UT women to its fifth women's outdoor national title this past June. Texas had 83 points and with her 22 1/2 points in the competition, Alfred would have finished 10th in the championships if she was her own school.
She is the most decorated sprinter in Texas history. Alfred holds the school record in the 100 and 200 meters and the 400 relay and won back-to-back 100 national outdoor titles over the past two years. She also was recently named Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year.
