Texas basketball: Tramon Mark the only Longhorn named to preseason All-SEC team

Texas basketball graduate transfer Tramon Mark earned a spot on the All-SEC preseason squad, the conference announced Monday. Mark, a 6-foot-5 wing, was named to the third team by league media members and was the only Texas player to pick up a preseason all-conference nod.

Mark, who spent three seasons at Houston before playing last year at Arkansas, has played in 107 career games with 69 starts and has recorded career totals of 1,200 points (11.2 points per game) and 424 rebounds (4.0) in 2,881 minutes (26.9) in his career. Last season he appeared in 31 games with 28 starts and led the Razorbacks  in scoring (16.2), steals (36) and minutes (32.5) and ranked in a tie for second in assists (57) and third in rebounding (4.3). He shot 48% from the floor, including a 36.4% mark from 3-point range, and 80.4% from the free throw line last season.

The Longhorns, who are No. 19 in the preseason AP poll, went 21-13 a year ago and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Graduation and the transfer portal gutted the squad, which only includes four returning scholarship players. Head coach Rodney Terry rebuilt the roster with a freshman recruiting class headlined by McDonald’s All-American Tre Johnson as well as a portal haul that features six new arrivals, including Mark.

Texas opens the 2024-25 season with a neutral-site contest against Ohio State on Nov. 4 as part of the Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas Opening Night event.
