Tests confirm iron man Joe Thomas tore triceps, out for remainder of season
What most suspected has now been confirmed: the Cleveland Browns tweeted Monday that an MRI showed that left tackle Joe Thomas did tear his left triceps on Sunday.
It is expected that Thomas will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair the injury.
Thomas, who made the Pro Bowl in each of his first 10 seasons, saw an incredible run of not only playing every game of his career but every single play come to an end with the injury, which he sustained in the third quarter against the Tennessee Titans.
The 32-year-old was engaged with Titans’ linebacker Brian Orakpo when it occurred. He quickly grabbed at the back of his upper left arm.
On a conference call with reporters Monday afternoon, Thomas said he knew right away he was injured: “I felt the tendon detach from my elbow, roll up into my triceps. It definitely hurt.”
The 6-foot-7 Thomas, whose Twitter feed is pretty humorous, went the funny route on Monday as he described his experience in the MRI machine:
The Geneva convention on torture (confinement, stress positions) was just violated when they wedged me into that MRI tube for 2 hrs. Yikes!

Thomas’ consecutive snaps played streak ended at 10,363, an incredible run. The MMQB’s Peter King noted that only 2 percent of all NFL players played in every one of their team’s snaps last year; for Thomas to have done it for 10 years and six-plus games is just remarkable.
