Terron Armstead on what he expects from 2024 season, and if it'll be his last

MIAMI GARDENS — Terron Armstead isn’t ready to say whether this will be his final NFL season.

He will say it will be a season to remember.

“Definitely, this is going to be my best season,” he said at Dolphins minicamp Wednesday. “I’m looking forward to having an All-Pro year, locked in, throwing people out the stadium, going crazy. That’s our mindset up front.”

But will it be his last in the league?

“No idea,” he said. “I enter every season with full, full commitment, locked in. I don’t try to look past that at all.”

There almost wasn’t a next season for Armstead, a left tackle. He said at the Pro Bowl in February that he needed time to consider his options, knowing that in July, he’ll turn 33. The 2024 season will be his 12th.

“Just a ton of reflection,” he said. “Analyzing the season as a whole, looking through the film, all those good things. Sat with some family, made some decisions. But ultimately, that’s where I belong. That’s where I’m supposed to be. I love where we are as a team. I love our opportunity we have in front of us. We left a lot on the table last year. And it’s time to finish.”

Armstead has suffered injuries, still made Pro Bowl

Armstead missed seven games last season and four in 2022, his first with the Dolphins. Such was his level of play that he still made the Pro Bowl both years. No point in listing all the injuries he has endured, though. Better to just say that the list was so long the Dolphins had to squeeze up to four at a time into the table they submitted to the league for the official injury report.

So many injuries rile a segment of fans who overlook the extent to which Armstead works behind the scenes to stay on the field.

“My training routine may be a little different than it was five years ago,” he said. “A lot more Pilates, yoga, bodywork than in years prior: just running sprints and gassers and stuff like that.”

Armstead figures it adds up to “everything science tells you” to do to minimize injuries.

“If you know something (missed), you let me know,” he said. “Yeah, the durability has been my Achilles' heel, has been my issue. But me as a professional, I pour everything into my game and this is what I do for a living, like I try to check all boxes, for sure.

“But if you get landed on from behind while you’re pass blocking, there’s no yoga class that’s going to prevent that.”
