Tennessee Titans unclear when injured QB Will Levis will return to practice ahead of Jaguars game

The Tennessee Titans' 2024 season is beginning the same way 2022 and 2023 ended: with uncertainty at quarterback.

Rookie QB Will Levis exited the team's loss to the Houston Texans last Sunday with a right foot injury. Titans coach Mike Vrabel said the team will "evaluate (Levis) through the week" and see how practice goes before making a decision about whether he'll be able to play in the season finale versus the Jacksonville Jaguars (9-7) on Sunday (noon, CBS).

Vrabel said it's too soon to say if Levis will be on the field when the Titans (5-11) return to practice Wednesday but said he thinks the rookie has made progress with his injury since Sunday. His injury is not related to the ankle injury that kept him off the field in Week 16 when the Titans lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

"Yeah, I think everybody has," Vrabel said when asked if Levis has made progress. "Everybody feels a little bit better after some treatment and some time and recovery. So, we'll see who's available and where we can go."

If Levis isn't able to go, Vrabel said the Titans will once again turn to veteran Ryan Tannehill at quarterback rather than second-year passer Malik Willis.

What Will Levis injury update means for Tennessee Titans

Levis has started nine games this season. The Titans have posted a 3-6 record in those starts, with the rookie throwing eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Tannehill is 2-5 in his starts with two touchdowns and six interceptions.

Vrabel and Levis both spoke openly in recent weeks about how important they feel it is for Levis to play in these games despite the fact that the Titans have been eliminated from playoff contention. The rookie said he wants to build up as many reps as he can heading into his first offseason as a pro. But the reps he's taking have resulted in an awful lot of hits. Titans quarterbacks have been sacked 62 times this season, the most in any Titans season since the franchise moved to Tennessee.

Tannehill has dealt with injuries stemming from taking hits in the last two years as well. He missed five games in 2022 with ankle injuries and ceded the starting position to Levis this season after sustaining another ankle injury in Week 6.
