Tennessee Titans to hire Baltimore Ravens' Dennard Wilson as defensive coordinator | Reports

The Tennessee Titans are approaching an agreement with Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson to be the team's next defensive coordinator, according to multiple media reports Wednesday.

Wilson joined the Ravens in 2023 and had worked as the defensive backs coach for the St. Louis Rams, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles. During his time with the Rams, Wilson overlapped with Titans general manager Ran Carthon, who was on staff as the team's director of player personnel.

Wilson, 41, is the first coordinator hire new Titans coach Brian Callahan has made. Callahan and Wilson have never worked together. In Callahan's introductory press conference, he said one of the main qualities he would look for in a defensive coordinator is a coach who helms the type of defense that tended to give Callahan's offenses troubles. Callahan coached against Wilson's Ravens twice in AFC North battles last season while he was offensive coordinator of the Cincinnati Bengals, losing both of the matchups.

The Ravens allowed the sixth-fewest passing yards per game and fewest passing yards per attempt in the NFL in 2023. When he was the defensive backs coach in Philadelphia in 2022, the Eagles ranked No. 1 in the NFL, allowing the fewest passing yards per game and per attempt. The Titans, by contrast, ranked 23rd in the NFL in yards allowed per pass attempt in 2023 and finished last in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game as recently as 2022.
