A Tennessee State football player was expelled from school after punching one of his coaches on the sideline during a game Saturday night.

The Tennesseean reported that Latrelle Lee, a senior defensive end, was dismissed from the team by head coach Rod Reed and subsequently kicked out of school following the incident, which was caught on video. The video shows Lee punching strength coach T.J. Greenstone multiple times in the head during Saturday night’s home game against Southeast Missouri.

Like many strength coaches around the country, Greenstone is tasked with keeping players and coaches from creeping too close to the playing field, which could result in a sideline interference penalty (though a warning is usually issued first). Per the Tennessean, Greenstone was seen “telling players to move back if they were too close.”

At that point, Lee twice punched Greenstone in the side of the head before the coach falls to the turf.

Greenstone, a former Vanderbilt football player, was named TSU’s Coordinator of Strength and Conditioning in August 2016 after two prior years as a strength assistant.

Lee appeared in 36 games over the course of his Tennessee State career, including 17 starts. In nine games (two starts) this season, he totaled 18 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss. He did not play in Saturday’s game. For his career, Lee compiled 77 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks.

A native of Dothan, Alabama, Lee was majoring in criminal justice and was on the Ohio Valley Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

TSU is 6-4 this season.
