Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins faces an unknown amount of time on the shelf in the wake of his latest hamstring injury.

From the sounds of comments made by ESPN's Adam Schefter on the "Pat McAfee Show," Higgins won't be on the field for the Week 2 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

"Tee Higgins has a hamstring injury," Schefter said. "We'll see how the week plays out but I'll be surprised if he plays on Sunday against the Chiefs."

The Bengals badly missed Higgins in the Week 1 loss to New England, where Joe Burrow threw for 164 yards on 29 attempts and Ja'Marr Chase -- while playing most of the offense's snaps -- led all receivers with 62 yards on six catches. No other target broke the 30-yard barrier.

Higgins suddenly came down with a hamstring issue in practice late last week and became a quick no-go for the season opener. It's the latest in a string of hamstring problems that have cost him games for the majority of his pro career.

If Higgins misses the Week 2 game on the road, the Bengals might incorporate some of rookie Jermaine Burton for his sheer explosiveness despite the red flags from over the summer.
