After six weeks, TCU is the only undefeated team remaining in the Big 12.

It came down to the wire on Saturday, but the eighth-ranked Horned Frogs knocked off No. 23 West Virginia 31-24 at home to put itself in prime position atop the conference standings.

After a low-scoring first half, TCU built a 17-3 lead late in the third quarter, but WVU was able to claw back and tie things up. The game was tied 24-24 late in the fourth when TCU quarterback Kenny Hill led the Horned Frogs on a game-winning, 13-play scoring drive. TCU had a third and goal from the 3-yard line when Hill, on a designed quarterback run, put forth an extra effort to get the ball across the goal line for the winning score.

The touchdown came after it looked like Hill was going to give WVU a chance to win the game. Hill lobbed one up to Jalen Reagor, who had a long TD catch earlier in the game, but it looked like the pass was intercepted at the one-yard line.

After the initial ruling of an interception, it was determined that the West Virginia defender only had control when he was out of bounds. The call gave TCU new life. Soon after, Hill hit John Diarse for a 23-yard gain to set up first and goal. Three plays later, Hill muscled his way into the end zone for the clutch winner.

It was Hill’s third different type of touchdown of the game after hitting Reagor for 45 yards in the third and catching a throwback from KaVontae Turpin for 48 yards later in the third frame.

Hill’s late-game heroics spoiled a gutsy comeback from West Virginia. WVU was bottled up by the TCU defense for much of the first three quarters until the Mountaineers started taking shots down the field.

In a span of 2:15 late in the third, Will Grier hit David Sills for a 64-yard touchdown and Ka’Raun White for a 76-yard touchdown to tie the score at 17-17.

TCU responded with the trick play touchdown where Turpin, a wideout, threw back across the field to Hill for a 48-yard score to retake the lead.

After the teams traded punts, WVU was able to string a 10-play drive together to tie the score at 24-24, capped off by another TD pass to Sills, who had seven catches for 116 yards and two scores.

Hill put together TCU’s winning drive on the next possession, giving the ball back to the Mountaineers down 31-24 with 2:53 to play. WVU was moving the ball a bit at first, but Sills was flagged for a questionable offensive pass interference call. Instead of a completion to Sills to put WVU near midfield, WVU faced first and 25. The drive fizzled from there, and TCU was able to improve to 5-0.

TCU already has a win over Oklahoma State under its belt. Couple that with No. 3 Oklahoma’s shocking home loss to Iowa State and the Horned Frogs are all of a sudden sitting pretty atop the Big 12 standings and in the College Football Playoff picture.
