Taylor Decker, Detroit Lions agree to 3-year contract extension

The Detroit Lions and starting left tackle Taylor Decker reached an agreement on a three-year, $60 million extension, Decker's agent announced on Monday.

Decker is entering the last year of his current deal and is scheduled to make $13.7 million in 2024. The extension keeps Decker under contract through the 2027 season. The extension includes $31.83 million in guaranteed money.

The deal was negotiated by Jonathan Feinsod and Shawn Lauvao of AMDG Sports. The deal was first reported by Feinsod.

Decker was the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2016 draft out of Ohio State, and he immediately was the team's starting left tackle. He has been one of the teams' leaders throughout his tenure with the Lions.

Even though Decker allowed a career high eight sacks last season, he showed up in crunch time only allowing one sack between week 15 and through the postseason.

Decker has been a productive player for years, but is probably most known for an infamous moment last year when he reported to the referee as an eligible receiver in Week 16 against the Dallas Cowboys. The Lions were trying to run a trick play in the fourth quarter on a two-point conversion attempt to win the game against the Cowboys. Decker ran a route from his left tackle position and caught the ball for the two point conversion score. Decker was seen running towards the referee and talking to the referee before the play, but the official said Decker never checked in as an eligible receiver, which made his two point conversion catch a penalty.

The Lions have already extended key pieces Jared Goff, Penei Sewell and Amon-Ra St. Brown earlier this offseason, and now have locked up another one of their core pieces for the foreseeable future.
