Tar Heels fall one spot after beating Louisville

North Carolina continued their roll by beating Louisville by double digits on Wednesday night in the Dean Dome. The win for the Tar Heels moved them to 14-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play.

However, it dropped them in one key metric.

North Carolina fell from No. 7 to No. 8 in the updated NET rankings by the NCAA following the win. The win was a Quad 4 win for the Tar Heels against Louisville but they also lost a Quad 1 win in the process.

The road win over Pitt moved from a Quad 1 win to a Quad 2 win, now giving them a 4-3 record in Quad 1 games instead of 5-3. That win could come back but UNC does need Pitt to start getting better and win some games.

Now, the NET is important but it’s also something that changes from time to time as evidenced by the movement from Quad 1 to Quad 2 with the Pitt result.

The best thing for North Carolina to do is to keep winning games and win the big Quad 1 opportunities, which they will have at least a few left.
