Take the test: Is that a real Minor League Baseball team or one we made up?
It’s not at all an exaggeration to say that there are some strange team names in Minor League Baseball these days. Between last baseball season and the one that’s about to start, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, New Orleans Baby Cakes, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and the Fond Du Lac Dock Spiders all became baseball teams.

Yes, I promise you, those are real teams. But they could have just as easily been fake. And that’s the basis behind a game we played recently at spring training in Arizona: Is that a real minor league team or a fake one?
I ventured around spring training parks with the trusty Yahoo Sports video crew rattling off a bunch of team names and asking fans if they’re real or fake. Half the names were real, half I made up on my flight to Arizona — like the Albuquerque Heisenbergs, the Lansing Lasagnas and the Carson City Chinchilla.
As you can imagine, this game became a lot of fun. Watch the entire video above and see how many you can get right. If you’ve read this far, you already know a few answers.
